Essence – All About Matt Foundation Review

Who ever thought my current favourite foundation would only cost me £3.50!! I love this Essence – All About Matt Foundation in the shade 30 Matt Sand. Even more surprisingly I had found this little beauty in Wilkinsons, please click here to purchase. I had no idea Wilko had started selling make up. FYI they also sell a wide range of synethic brushes for super cheap too, that will be next on my wish list!

What the packaging states:

*12 hours long lasting

*Oil Free

*Cover imperfections

*Flawless finish

*Dermatological tested.

It looks like nothing special, a very basic plastic tube! I have no issue with this, as I much prefer the foundation to be amazing (which this is!). I also, find it hygienic that it comes in squeezy tube with a nozzle at the end. You get the standard 30ml amount of foundation inside.

Shade Range.

The shade range for this product is poor, there are only three or four colours to choose out of. This will not be ideal for very pale or very dark skin tones. Luckily the darkest shade 30 Matt Sand has managed to work decent for me. Also I have a bit of my holiday tan still left so perhaps in another month this foundation should hopefully be a perfect match. For reference, I am shade MAC NC41 or Revlon Colourstay Foundation in Natural Tan (if you are these shades this essence shade should work for you). In the summer I fit L’Oreal True Match Foundation in N6 therefore this Essence foundation will probably be too light for the summer but for the rest of the year it should be fine.

I would say this is a neutral foundation, it appears slightly more pink when I first apply it but it does somehow blend and after a while it oxides and matches my skin tone perfectly.

This foundation gives a medium coverage finish that is oil free. It covers most light blemishes and marks. The texture is not too runny or too thick therefore It can be easily used with fingers or a brush, I personally use this with my Sigma F88 brush and it gives a flawless finish.

Because this foundation is so cheap I did not expect a lot from the formula and the claims of being matt, but this is one product that does not lie! It certainly does give me a matt finish. I wouldn’t say pure matt, but something in between semi- matt to matt but you can definitely make it pure matt with applying powder. I tend to prime, then apply the foundation and then apply a very little amount of powder only on the T-Zone (far much less compared to when wearing another foundation), sometimes I even skip the powder part as I do not really need it, but I tend to just apply a little if I will be wearing it for a long time.  I love how natural and flawless this foundation makes me look. I love the semi-matt look when the weather gets cooler so this is perfect for the autumn/winter months.

This foundation does last a long time – I have worn this for 10 hours and it stayed on fine, definitely lasts longer when primed and powdered on top. More importantly it stays true to its claims with staying matt!! I spent a long day shopping the other week and my little sister who does not know much about make up had even said your face is not shiny after shopping for once! ( ha ha cheeky little girl). Sometimes it is nice to hear a compliment from someone that does not know any thing about make up because then they will tell you the obvious truth without being bias!!

The only downfall I have for this foundation is that it contains no SPF, but on the other hand this shade will be too light for me to wear in the summer anyways. Even If I could wear this in the summer I probably would because of the price and how amazing this product is, I would be happy to apply SPF underneath this foundation.

Over Verdict: 4 ½ stars out of 5. It looses the extra ½ star for no SPF. Other from this I love this foundation and find my self reaching for it more than my other foundations. I also have not had any break outs so its no clogging pores claim is probably true!

Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H Review

Hi guys! I have been very intrigued to try out a gel eyeliner as they are very much in trend atm and have heard some good things about them. Today, I will be reviewing the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H – bit of a mouthful I know! I have purchased the shade 01 Black. I picked this up from Superdrug for £7.99

IMG_7583                        IMG_7586

This eye liner comes in a beautiful small frosted round tub, you may think that there is such a small amount provided, but I can imagine this lasting a long time as you just need to use a little! Maybelline has also provided a brush, I was not expecting a lot from this brush, but boy was I wrong! This brush is a perfect size, tapered, soft and after a few washes no bristles have shed.

Maybelline claims this is a very long lasting eye liner 24 hours in fact, I do not wear my make up for 24 hours therefore can not comment to that claim, nevertheless I would say it is very long lasting as I have worn this product for 10 hours and it looks exactly the same as when I first applied it. On me I find this product once dried, it is matt, smudge and transfer proof! I have also worn this in heavy rain over the weekend and 99% stayed on! Another big plus, this gel eye liner does not give me panda eyes!

The formula is a  smooth gel like texture, it is very creamy and glides on very well. It does dry up pretty quick, I find it dries quicker on my top lid rather than my waterline. The gel eye liner also allows me to create either a natural or dramatic look. What I love most about this product is that the colour is amazing, it is very pigmented, the colour is very intense in just one swipe!

As you can see, this gel eye liner can be used on the top lid or on the waterline and both of course. I tend to find it takes me a little longer to apply compared to liquid or pencil eye liner. I also find it a little difficult when creating a wing look.  However the end results are much better as this creates a more dramatic look and is much more long lasting. Hopefully with some more practise I can achieve the perfect look!

Would I purchase this product again? Deffinialty yes! I may not wear this product if I am in a rush but whenever I have that extra couple minutes and nights out I would reach for this. I am very happy with the end results. I am now reaching much more over for this gel eyeliner rather than my pencils and liquid eyeliners.

What do you think of gel eye liners? have you tried any? Do you think they are better or worse compared to liquid eye liners? Love to hear your thoughts!

Barry M Gel Nail Polish

Currently white nail polish is very much in trend. It is pretty much a bold colour and some may not even like this colour due to the fact it reminds them of school days and painting their nails with tip-ex (I never done this btw lol). However I quite like the white nail look.

I purchased the Barry M gel nail polish in the shade coconut. It applied easily, however in comparison to the original version the longevity is not much difference at all. But I did find the gel version does give a more of a shine finish for £1 more, you might as well make that little splurge hehe!!

Bourjous Color Boost Review

Hi all,

I have a little lipstick obsession ATM, perhaps because it is summer and I can experiment more with brighter colours!

Today, I will be reviewing the new Bourjous Paris Color Boost in the shade Sunrise Red.

This shade is a lovely summery colour, it is a very deep pink/red. I would say on me it looks much more closer to a red. Therefore any one who has not got the courage to wear a pure red lipstick this one would definitely be a great starting point.

What Bourjous claim’s:

*10 hour Comfort and hydration

*SPF 15

*Waterproof colour

*Glossy finish lipstick

I can agree that this lipstick has a lovely glossy finish and it does feel very comfortable on the lips. However I have noticed that the glossiness does tend to disappear after some time. The texture of this lip crayon it is very much like a balm therefore it is hydrating! I am not sure if my lips are hydrated for 10 hours because I have not worn this lipstick for that long.  As mentioned this can be compared to a lip balm but do not be fooled as this is very pigmented.

Overall this is a great lip crayon, I probably would not wear this on an daily basis  due to the fact on me it appears more red then pink, but will be great for night out with a statement lip colour!

Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner Review

I have never own or worn a lip liner before because I am way too lazy to be bothered to apply too many products on my lips up until now! Last weekend I had a wedding to attend to, where I had wanted to wear my Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in shade Mayfair Red Lady. Wearing a red lipstick alone is high maintenance and to top that off, my lipstick was way too moisturising that it was smudging and bleeding!! I knew lip liners are good with preventing bleeding, but again I really did not want to spend a lot on a red lip liner as red is a colour I barely wear! I then stumbled across, Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner, I had purchased this from Ebay for £4.59.

The packaging of this lip liner is amazing, the gold pen makes it seem high end and most importantly you do not need a sharpener! you just twist it and the product will come up or down. This is a brilliant idea as I find this much more convenient to use.

This lip liner, is invisible which means you don’t need to worry about finding a matching colour nor worrying about applying perfect application. You can apply it with a heavy hand even and no one will notice. If you notice the photo below the colour really is invisible (as you can not see where I had swatch it).

This Lip Liner, is very waxy and I guess this is what helps prevent bleeding. It does not smell of much. It is smooth, almost like a lip balm. I usually apply it on my lip line and then a light coat all over my lips too. I tend to feel a slight tingly feeling when I apply this, but after a minute this disappears. I absolutely love this product, my red lipstick did not bleed all day. However, my lipstick still faded after I had eaten, but it was better than without the lip liner. I tend to be grabbing this product everyday now, because it takes seconds to apply and glides on effortlessly. I highly recommend this product for every girl that wears lipstick or lip gloss as it will help prevent bleeding and fading!

Overall rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars!

DIY: How to make your own Rakhi / friendship bracelets

Today is a special day for Hindus and Sikhs, this day is called Raksha Bandhan. It is a festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters. ‘Raksha’ means protection and ‘Bandhan’ means binding or bound. On this day, a sister would tie a special string or band that we call ‘rahki’ or ‘rakri’ on their brother’s/ cousin brother’s wrist. In return he will promise to look after her and give her money or gifts. I have been making my brothers rahki’s for many years with embroidery thread, but this year I wanted to do something different by adding a modern twist. I have decided to make a sliding knot bracelet. This can also be created as a friendship or fashion bracelet.

If you would like to make this bracelet / rakhi, please follow the below steps:

You will need:

  • 1.5mm leather cord in the colour of your preference – I brought mine from Ebay for £3.25 for a 5m role please click here to purchase (you could also use 1mm or 2mm width cord too)
  • 6x6mm Beads of your choice, I chose letter beads – I brought this from Ebay for £3.99 for 500 letters, please click here to purchase
  • Scissors

How to make your bracelet:

1) Cut about 35/40cm of the leather cord. (It does not need to be a precise measurement as these bracelets are adjustable!)

2) Tie a knot just over half way of the thread.

3) Add your beads of your choice in. I have got the word ‘BHAI’ the English translation for this means brother. Then tie another knot at the other end of the beads.

4) Double check if your beads are roughly in the middle of your cord.

5) Bring both sides of the cord around to make a circle shape. On one side of the cord (in the photo case the right side) make a small loop whilst holding the left side of the cord underneath.

6) with the right side of the cord, use the remaining end of the cord to wrap around the loop. Wrap this around twice.

7) Then you should have about 1cm of the cord left, you insert this into the loop. Pull the end of the cord with the opposite side of the cord. Do this gently and the cord should automatically start to tie a knot.

8) Repeat with the other side of the cord. You should now have two knots that can slide and adjust when you pull the strings. Do not tie the knots too tight or too loose.

9) Cut any extra cord bits off.

10) It is now ready to tie on yours or someone else’s wrist. 😀

Once you have got the hang of making these bracelets, they become very easy to make. Plus it is great that they are adjustable as it is a nightmare to make an exact size for all my brothers as they very from babies to adults. It is very easy and cheap to buy rakhi’s, but it is nice to put some thought into making your own. Get creative!! I hope they like my modern twist to a rakhi 🙂

Happy Raksha Bandhan to all those that are celebrating!!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick Review in Shade Mayfair Red Lady + Swatches.

20140806-135038-49838291.jpgI must admit a red lipstick is a timeless colour, however it is a colour I do not wear often; if I did it would have to be a good occasion. I recently had a wedding to attend and wanted a new red lipstick to match my saree. I had tried Mac’s Ruby Woo, which is loved by many however I was not keen on this lipstick because I found it very drying even when I had prepped my lips before hand. Therefore I decided to then try a drug store lipstick, as I did not want to spend a lot of money for a colour I would not wear often.

I stumbled upon Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick Review in Shade 510 – Mayfair Red Lady. I purchased this at Superdrug for £6.49. I was very drawn to the name of this lipstick as it oozes elegance and sophistication. The packing of this product is nothing fancy and pretty standard with it being a plastic purple lid.

The shade of this lipstick is a bright vibrant red that will get you standing out from the crowed. It has a slight orange undertone therefore this shade probably be more suited for olive/brown skin tones. Surprisingly, it is very pigmented for a moisturising lipstick .This lipstick also has a sheen/glossy look; if you prefer matt lipsticks then this is not for you.

This lipstick contains vitamins A, C and E and this is what gives the moisture. It is a very hydrating lipstick and applies effortlessly. However, the downfall to this lipstick is that it may be ‘too hydrating’; this lipstick tends to bleed easily which is very disappointing especially as I wanted to wear it for a wedding where there would be plenty of eating and drinking. However, I have managed to over come this issue by using Sally Hansen Invisible Lip Liner underneath (I will be reviewing this product very soon – truly is amazing). My lipstick did not bleed all day, it did fade a little after eating but I did not mind topping up my lipstick after food.

Overall verdict: this is a good lipstick I will rate it 3.5 stars as I love the colour but the longevity of this lipstick is not great. If worn with a lip liner you will gain better results, then I will give it 4 stars (I would definitely wear this again with the lip liner!) but basing it on the lipstick alone it is far too moisturising to stay on the lips.

I am still searching for the perfect red lipstick that is neither to drying nor overly moisturising. If any one has any drug store recommendations that will be great 🙂

PS- you probably noticed the Aladdin and Jasmine dolls at the back – that’s because I am a massive Disney Aladdin fan – you are never too old for Disney!! hehe 🙂
